The following lists our answers to commonly asked questions, in particular our PENNEY PANG Designer Cakes on pricing policy, procedures, ways to secure a booking etc.  Please read carefully before you send out an enquiry in order to speed up the process.

Q1: PRICING ON CUSTOM DESIGN CAKES

Unlike retail cakes, custom-designed wedding cakes, celebration cakes and sculptured cakes are quoted by order (that is, not by weight).  As these cakes are handcrafted with unique, personalised details and style, price list on this service does not reflect different individual's taste and requirements.  Having said that, prices are largely dependent on: 

 

1) number of servings required (see Q2), and

2) the customised details of your cake design (see Q3)

 

For example, delicate sugar / handcrafted flowers are created petal by petal, pricing depends on type, colours and quantity required.  Obviously, more sugar flowers mean the cake is more expensive.

 

In addition, scuplture cakes (such as car-like cakes, dress-like cakes) are cakes that are scuplted from cake slabs.  As the name suggests, these cakes demand skillful craftmanship. These edible artworks have a high price tag attached.

Q2: CAKE SIZE

The followings show some possibilities:

 

Single-tier

Small: 8 standard size servings (equivalent to 14 finger size servings)

Large: 24 standard size servings (equivalent to 42 finger size servings)

 

2-tier

Small:  24 standard size servings (equivalent to 42 finger size servings)

Large:  46 standard size servings (equivalent to 80 finger size servings)

 

3-tier

Small:  56 standard size servings (equivalent to 100 finger size servings)

Large:  100 standard size servings (equivalent to 180 finger size servings)

 

Other than the above, sizes such as average, extra large, contemporary height, etc are also available.  As such, once the booking is confirmed, appropriate size based on your various requirements will be suggested for your consideration.

 

Please note procedures and time required to do a small and average cakes are similar, meaning cost per serving of a small cake is often much higher than a larger cake.  From our experience, a small single-tier cake is the most expensive per serving.

Q3: OUR DESIGN AND STYLING

Our wedding cakes are well-known for being elegant and romantic with an artistic twist.  While you are welcome to show us your preferred design from other cake designers / artists, we often use it as a guide only.  This is not only because of respect for the intellectual property of others, we also believe each cake designer/artist has a unique individual style.

 

While our celebration and sulptured cakes are largely inspired by our daily lives and surroundings, we do not provides cakes based on licensed characters (such as Disney or Sanrio) or branded logos due to copy right / intellectural property issue, unless prior approval is obtained from relevant parties.

Q4: PRICING ON OTHER CONFECTIONERY ITEMS

Other confectionery items, such as cupcakes, cookies, marshmallow pops, and cake pops are also handcrafted with unique, personalised details and style.  These are quoted by order, depending on:

 

1) quantity required, and

2) the customised details of your design

 

In addition, unless specified, the following miniumum purchase quantity applies (same design and colours):

 

Cupcakes:  12 pieces 

Cookies:  12 pieces 

Marshmallow pops:  18 pieces 

Cake pops:  18 pieces 

 

A surchage will apply if the miniumum purchase quantity is not met, and this is subject to our discretion and availability.

Q6: OUR PROCEDURES

Unlike production in bulk, all our creations are handcrafted and therefore at least two months advance notice is required.  For popular dates, especially from September to February, a six-month advance notice is recommended.  Having said that, you are always welcome to send us an enquiry to check our availability should you date fall short of our notice period.

 

Step 1:  Check our availability by sending us an email to enquiry@penneypang.com with (a) date, (b) location of the party, (c) number of guests to feed, and (d) photos of your preferred design.

 

Once we have received your enquiry email, we will notify you our availability with a general quotation based on your requirements.

 

 

Step 2:  After you have received our reply and wish to proceed further, please response accordingly so that we can forward payment details in order to secure the booking.

 

To secure your event date on our calendar, your can either make:

 

(1)  a 50% payment of the general quotation, this is non-refundable, or

(2)  a HK$3,000 holding deposit (if you need more time to decide on your cake design).  The holding deposit is non-refundable but can be offset from the final bill .

 

 

Step 3:  Design proposal based on your preference and various requirements

For wedding cakes and sculptured cakes, design sketches will be provided for your review and comment after the booking is confirmed.  For other services, sketches will be provided upon request.  In addition, updated pricing and options will also be provided together with the design proposal.

 

 

Step 4:  Once you have reviewed the design sketches, you are welcome to comment and alter the design.  

 

 

Step 5:  Your approval is required so that the team can start the preparation and its production.  Please note design alteration afterwards is subject to our discretion and availability of time.

 

 

Step 6:  Final payment to be settled 5 days before the event.

Q7: CAKE FLAVOURS AND FILLINGS

Our cakes are butter-base cake infused with different flavours, this means our cakes are more velvet in texture and moist when comparing to sponge cakes which are sold at different chain stores.

 

We are currently offering 12 different combination of flavours and fillings, including two which have won medals at professional competitions.

 

We are unable to use sponge cake / chiffon cake / mousse cake for decorative cakes; they do not have the necessary texture to carry the sugar emblishments which are relatively heavy.

Q8: CAKE SAMPLING / TASTING

Sampling of recommended cake flavours and fillings can be requested, and its related fee will be provided upon request.

Q9: CAKE STAND HIRING

The exact charges will be provided along with the final quotation.  In addition, a security deposit is required and will be reimbursed when the stands are returned undamaged.

 

Unless specified, hired cake stands need to be returned within 3 working days after your event.  Late returns will be charged at a daily rate of HK$100.

Q10: DELIVERY AND SETUP FEE

Cake delivery and setup up will be charged according to the location of the event and carriage complexity of the order.  The exact charges will be provided along with the final quotation.

Q11: DESIGN / DATE ALTERATIONS OR CANCELATIONS

All changes to the previously agreed design (including size) are subject to our discretion and availabiilty, and will incur extra fees.

 

Alteration to the date of your event / delivery is subject to availability of our calendar, and in some cases, may incur extra fees.

 

In the event of cancellation, booking deposit and / or holding deposit previously paid are non-refundable.
